So, I don't usually post about General Hospital in here. But I've been watching. I've been suffering through the longest, most boring day in the history of mankind. This biotoxin crisis was a big ole dud for me. And I'm thinking that it's not worth it. GH is all about the buildup with no payoff. They'll build a wonderful love story between two characters for a whole year, then stall them and leave their fans dangling. I was so ready to just say screw it, and stop watching. Then this happened and I was pulled right back in:

Spinelli and Maxie reunion, FTW. Oh man, it was so perfect. It hit every note right for me. The looks, the music, the kiss, it was all so, so good. And I know that there are bumps in the road, and obstacles, and third party interlopers lurking around out there. But at this moment, I don't care. Days like today remind me why I continue to watch this show and pull for this couple. They are just total ♥ for me.

Mack felt like he was moving in slow motion inside the eye of a hurricane of activity happening all around him. ~ The Shack by W.M. Young
This book is very interesting. Its basically about this man's relationship with God after something terrible happens in his life. Everyone at my parent's church was reading it and my Mom recmmended it so I figured I'd give it a chance. Its not the type of book I normally read, but so far its really been good. Very thought provoking about Faith and tragedy.

I'm "working from home" today so I can watch all the Inauguration festivities. I've been flipping back and forth between NBC (in HD, whoo!) and CNN.  I am just almost overwhelmed by all the people there and the excitement that I can feel through the TV.  Finally, finally this day is here. I am so excited. Change has come to America.

Sidenote: I love Malia's coat.  The Obama kids are so cute. Actually the whole family is just so precious, I want to fold them up and put them in my pocket. Lol.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FLIST!!

I won't be around the rest of the week as I'm heading to Atlanta to get my drink and party on, then to New Orleans to see my team play in the Sugar Bowl (ROLL TIDE!!). ButI wanted to say Happy New Year first. I was going to do that look back at 2008 meme, but my year really wasn't that interesting so I'll just hit some of the high points.

-Moved to a "new" city (to the one I grew up in). The jury's still out on that one.

-Went to Barbados for a my friend Jo's wedding. Love the Bajans, they are a frinedly lot.

-Got a puppy. Love my Bella, she's a cutie.

-Went to Vegas for my 30th birthday. Got so drunk (like college days drunk, lol). Had great good times.

-And the best thing of the year to me, Barack Obama was elected President. Someone I voted for actually won. And I like and believe in him and think he will do all he can to right a lot of the wrongs that have gone on around this country during the Bush years. I'm somewhat cautiously excited to see what 2009 has in store.

I'm sure there are more, but I'm at work and rushing to get some things done. So have a great New Years! Oh and one more thing. If you have time, go see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It was AMAZING. I seriously think it was one of the best movies I've seen this year. It makes you laugh and cry and just think. I'll probably try to go and see it again in the next week. Seriously, so good.

So, I'm watching the AMA's right now. I was really sad that I didn't get a chance to go to the New Kids concert in Atlanta last month, because I was sure that it would have been some good nostalgic times. However, watching their performance on the AMA's tonight was just.......embarassing? Like, I had to cover my eyes because I wanted to watch but then I didn't. I dont' know, they were up there and trying so hard and the audience was just like, whatever. They finisihed okay, but the begining was pretty painful for me and my embarassment squick, lol. Other than them so far, I've loved Pink and thought Christina was a little off.

Saw Twilight this weekend. I'm kind of eh about it. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it definitely provided some unintentional laughs. Okay just a couple of spoiery thingsCollapse )

All in all, not a bad way to fill 2 hours. I won't be watching it again at the movies I'm sure, and probably won't be getting the DVD, but if it comes on HBO or Starz I'm sure I'll watch it every time it comes on, lol.

So this time last week, kellicb and I were at the Sunday night Street Jam at Super Soap Weekend (I finally got to see Bradford sing, it was so freaking good). Ah, it was an excellent time. I'm so sad that this was the last SSW (for now) becuase I would definitely go back. All the soap people are so gorgeous and funny. And they seem to really appreciate their fans. Me being a big Spixie fan and her being a big Liason fan, we pretty much followed Bradford (Spinelli), Kirsten (Maxie), and Becky (Liz) around. They were all very lovely. We also had a kick ass time at Disney. I forgot how much fun Disney can be for kids of any age, lol. Plus they've added some really good rides since the last time I was there. Good times, I really hated to have to come back and go to work.

We did it! I'm on the phone with my entire family (Mom, Dad, two sisters). My parents who have lived in the South their whole lives, who experienced segregation, then integration, who never thought they'd live to see a black President. I have tears in my eyes right now.

So I went out and excersised my right to vote today. I've been waiting and waiting for this day and finally it's here. I nervous, I'm excited, I hopeful. When I got in line, there was an older black lady coming out of the door with a HUGE smile on her face and wiping tears from her eyes. That's when I teared up the first time. Two girls in front of me were voting for the first time, and they were so excited, taking pictures of themselves and the lines, it made me so happy. When I actually sat down and filled in the bubble next to Obama's name, I teared up again, then just couldn't stop smiling.

This is such a historic day, I was almost overwhelmed. My Mom was one of the first students to integrate her high shcool back in the 60's. And she never thought she'd see a day where she had a chance to vote a black man into office as President. Yet she's going later today to cast her vote. My younger sister voted for the first time in a Presidential election and she's so excited. She's called me 3 times this morning already. The excitement this election is amazing, and it really warms my heart to see it. Now I have my free Starbucks and my free Krispy Kreme donut, and I just really need Barack Obama to take this thing. I'm going to be a nervous wreck until tomorrow morning.

So this meme is going around with a map showing how many states you've visited.

Apparently I'm more well traveled than I thought. I've been to almost 50% of the states. Thank goodness for (free) work travel!Collapse )

Other than New York, I haven't visited in the Northeast as much as I'd want to. Both Philly and Boston are on my wish list of places to visit and hopefully my sisters and I will be going to Hawaii next year on vacation. Oh and next year I'll be able to add Kentucky because I'm definitely going to the Kentucky Derby next year (we already have a free place to stay!).

As far as internationally, I've been to Italy and Barbados and that's it. There's so many more places I'd like to visit one day.

Ha, ha, it's been since the Olympics since I posted an entry. Wow. I'm always meaning to post, but it just never seems to actually happen.

Anyway, I've been pretty busy. I got a new puppy named Bella. She is a Jack Russell Terrier mix and is far more work than I would have thought. I know it's not the same as having a baby, but if feels like it, lol. I have to go home almost every day (unless I can sucker my Dad into it) to let her out because she's only 4 months old and she can't hold it all day yet. She's so cute though, and it's nice to have someone be so excited to see you when you come home.

Went to Vegas this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. The big 3-0. I totally don't feel 30, but there it is. We had a ridiculously fun time in Vegas. Went to see O (that's the one they do in the water) at the Bellagio, and it was as fabulous as everyone says. Went to some fun clubs and ate at some very tasty resturants (the Paris Le Village buffet is worth every single dollar and Olives at the Bellagio is muy delicious). Next time I go to Vegas though, I'm going to the Hoover Dam. Even if I have to trek out there by myself, I'm doing it. I'm an engineer for goodness sake, and it's a feat of engineering! I'd love to see it in person.

In other news, REAL TV IS BACK! Yay. I mean, I've been watching the summer reality shows and the little summer shows that I like (Eureka, Psych, My Boys, etc), but actual real primetime TV is finally here. So I have opinions on a few things (really that's what this entry was all about, lol).

BonesCollapse )

HeroesCollapse )

HIMYM, Fringe, SCCCollapse )

Other than those (which looks like so much layed out like that), I'm watching 90210, One Tree Hill, and Gossip Girl. I may drop GG though, because my Monday's are packed. I'm a couple episodes behind, and from what I've read I'm not missing much. I'm not on the Chuck/Blair train and the train I was on has apparently completely left the track, so I may just give up on that one for now. I've already dropped Prison Break. I hadn't watched the last six episodes of last season and I just realized that I really don't care anymore. I am happy for all the S/M fans though. I just couldn't drum up enough interest this season.

New Office tonight. I am very, very excited. I didn't love the end of last season, but I'm hoping they come out strong. I've seen the promos and I think they have a good chance. And new Grey's and Ugly Betty too. Not as excited about those, but hey, new TV. I can't complain.

So yeah, another Olympics post to clog up your friendslist. So I'm an Olympics junkie and have almost every single Olympics channel you can get (even the 24/7 basketball channel which, yeah, not really making use of that).

Anyway, my brief thoughts after 5 days of Olympics? I love Micheal Phelps so freaking much. I mean, I have since Athens. He just seems so much more mature, so much more relaxed here than he did there. He seems to be enjoying it all more, and just soaking it in more. I mean, he acutally teared up on the medal stand that first day.

Why are the Gymnastics commentators so negative. No spoilers for tonight here, but man I think they are the most debbie downer sportscasters I've heard so far. I mean Rowdy Gaines (swimming commentator) is kind of negative/cautious, but the gymnastics ones really take the cake. I'm already nervous enough, do I really need to hear "oh, it's all over for them now. Nothing they can do, blah, blah, blah." Whatever, if I could put them on mute I would.

Uh yeah, if that one Chinese girl (who did the vault) is a day over 10, I will eat a hat. Yeah right, China, yeah right.
